Why use Spelling Practice?

Build confident spellers—without tears. Kids warm up on Learn (blur words, hear the word and sentence) and then show what they know on Quiz with typed recall and instant feedback. Meanwhile, the Grown-up Dashboard helps you plan ahead, organize lists, and monitor progress at a glance.

  • Confidence first, then challenge: Practice in a low-stakes Learn space, then switch to Quiz for retrieval practice—the most effective way to lock in spelling.
  • Hear it, see it, spell it: Built-in read-aloud speaks each word (and optional sentence) to support phonemic awareness and orthographic mapping.
  • Smart feedback & quick fix-ups: Typed answers get instant right/wrong results. One tap replays audio, and “Review wrong only” mode targets exactly what needs work.
  • Progress you can trust: Green/red pips show results from the first completed round only—no over-counting retries. Hover any pip to see the date.
  • A dashboard grown-ups love: Add words with sentences, sort A–Z or by date created, collapse long tables, bulk edit safely, and use “Add to Future” to plan upcoming lists.
  • Built for real kids and busy homes: Archive finished words, clear a word’s history when needed, and celebrate wins (including a special message for all-correct rounds).

Warm up on Learn (optional):

How to use it

  1. Open the Learn tab to practice without scoring.
  2. Toggle Blur words to hide spellings. Press Play to hear the word (and sentence).
  3. Have your child say the word aloud, then unblur to check themselves.
  4. Use Shuffle to mix the order so practice isn’t tied to a fixed list.
  5. Keep sessions short—when they’re confident, switch to the Quiz.

Quiz (with smart review):

How to use it

  1. Open the Quiz tab and press Start quiz. The tool speaks each word (and sentence, if provided).
  2. Your child types the word and presses Enter or taps Check for instant feedback.
  3. At the end, choose: Do all again, Do this round again, or Review wrong only for a focused fix-up.
  4. The round summary shows which words were right ✅ or wrong ❌ (and what was typed).

Set up words in Settings (Grown-up Dashboard):

How to use it

  1. Add a word (optionally with a sample sentence). Use the “Add to Future” toggle if you’re planning ahead.
  2. Keep lists tidy: move between Current, Future, and Archived; sort A–Z or by date added; collapse long tables; and clear a word’s history if you need a fresh start.
  3. Delete safely with a small confirmation popup. Tip: bulk-select rows to speed up edits.

Progress pips appear under each word in Settings: green = right, red = wrong. Hover a pip to see the date it was recorded.

FAQ

How does the tool read words aloud?

It uses your device’s built-in text-to-speech so kids can practice listening, segmenting sounds, and mapping them to letters.

What if my Current Quiz Word List is empty?

There’s nothing to study or quiz. Add new words or move some from Future/Archived into the Current list to get started.

What do the colored dots mean?

Green dots are right answers; red dots are wrong answers. Hover to see the date. Dots reflect the first completed round of a session only.

Can I plan words ahead of time?

Yes. Use the “Add to Future” toggle when adding words, then move them into Current when your child is ready.

Is there a limit to how many words I can store?

This free tool allows you to keep up to 100 words across your lists. Delete words to make space for new ones.

Short, frequent sessions beat marathon drills. Aim for 5–10 minutes, celebrate small wins, and keep momentum going!
